Prepare your website for a migration
A smooth move starts with a clear picture of your current website. Gather the information below before you arrange a migration.
Make an inventory
- The domain name, current host, and website software.
- Website files, databases, and any scheduled tasks.
- Email accounts and the company that currently handles email.
- DNS records, external integrations, and any time-sensitive transactions.
Take a backup you can restore
Save a current copy of the website files and database, where applicable. Keep that backup away from the server being changed, and check that it contains what you need to restore the site.
Plan the move before changing DNS
Agree on the migration scope and timing first. A destination copy should be tested before visitors are sent to it. For a store or another site that changes frequently, plan how to handle new orders, uploads, and other updates during the move.
Tell us what you need
Use the contact page to describe your site and proposed move. We will discuss the requirements with you. Do not send login passwords or private keys through the public form.
Verify the result
After a move, check important pages, forms, account access, checkout if applicable, and email. Keep your previous hosting and backup available until you have confirmed the services you rely on.
